“Drop the weapon!” Patrick Larkin cried, his M9 trained on Victoria.

“Drop yours first!” Victoria called from the bush, her Walther PPK equipped with a silencer trained on Patrick.

He recognized her first.

“Victoria Burney.” he paused. “Can it be?” he looked at her. It was her. “I recognize you. You took all those missions that no one would touch. Operation Airborne Dragon: you are a d@mned legend.” he paused. “I told General O’Neill he needed to talk to you. Told him you had potential.”

“Who the hell are you? Victoria asked. It took her a minute to recognize who it was. “Major Patrick Larkin? My old instructor at the at the Academy?”

The same, Patrick replied. “Victoria, you don't have to do this. You were made for greatness.”

I'm afraid I do,” Victoria replied. Her grip tightened around her pistol. But her voice trembled.

Heart breaking, totally heart breaking. And yet, completely absorbing in every way.

A dry, almost broken laugh escaped Larkin. “And I thought you were following orders.”

Victoria faltered for a second period just long enough to drive a wedge of doubt in her heart.

“You’re better than this,” he said softly.

Victoria's breath caught.

And then—

She pulled the trigger.

One shot.

Patrick collapsed, his weapon falling from his hand before it even hit the ground.

Victoria was stunned. What had she done? She had killed enemies in her battles in her missions, but this was different.

Victoria knelt by Patrick's side. She pressed her hand to Patrick's wound. His blood was still warm on her hands. She began to shake all over.

“Why... didn't you shoot?” Victoria asked, her voice trembling.
