Or a stranger living at the centre of the world? 😉 I have never been to Rome's non-Catholic cemetery and who knows if I will ever get to go; now that I only go to Rome very few times (not once every papal death but once every Jubilee, so more or less the same), it's just a quick day trip. But that's a phrase I've always liked, because it conveys the idea of the transience of who we are, what we do, what we say. Even though we often think the opposite, nothing is set in stone and everything is written on water. And often it's muddy too.

The epitaph on John Keats's gravestone reads "Here lies One Whose Name was writ in Water". This phrase was his dying wish.
