It became known as a “tramp stamp” at the same time that it was popular for women to show a bit of thong with their low rise jeans and crop top. They were almost exclusively done on women, and many people consider the lower back of a woman very attractive, and the combination of those things led to a lower back tattoo being associated with promiscuity.

It is a really nice place to get ink put on, and can be really beautiful, so it is a shame they are stereotyped."
