Immanuel Kant (1724-1804)

Kant is (rightly) considered one of the greatest philosophers in human history, for many even “the greatest philosopher”. His epistemological ideas contributed significantly to the development of modern science. The “categorical imperative” is one of the most important achievements in ethics. The “Charter of the United Nations” was essentially inspired by Kant’s work “Perpetual Peace“. He also worked in the natural sciences and is still indispensable in the field of aesthetics today. Even today, Kant's ideas (e.g. from the essay “What is Enlightenment?”) are groundbreaking for a humane world. When Kant died, the city of Königsberg gave him a burial that only Kings and Queens usually receive. His last words are said to have been: “It’s good.” („Es ist gut.“)
