Phacochoerus africanus
Holding the tail vertically is called "flagging"; it is thought to be a visual signal to keep a group together in long grass, much like a tour-guide's umbrella

This image shows a family of warthogs charging through the savanna. The adult has prominent tusks and dark, wrinkled skin. The scene is depicted with earthy tones and sharp contrasts, reminiscent of wildlife art.

Aw, thank you, Charlie! Tails pm animals serve so many different purposes. Sure, even without words, we're able to express our emotions and convey what we mean by our facial expressions. But 'stone faced' or with who have difficulty interpreting facial expressions like many on the autistic scale, what a person might feel is easily missed.
But wonderful tails! They can be seen without being close like we need to be with facial expressions. There's no missing them. I think of a tribe of meerkats attacking another tribe encroaching on their territory; of many deer and gazelles who flash a warning signals with tails up to others. Other emotions are signaled by an animal's tails. We only have to look at our pet cats to understand how versatile a tail is!
