But where is Marie?

My family -- the Laveau family in New Orleans -- is a matriarchal family. The men are not there: they are either left or live elsewhere.

I am the only male. I am fourteen years old and I want to be a painter when I grow up.

Let me introduce you to my family.

There's Camille, my mother. She is a sunny and intelligent woman born in 1976. She owns a costume jewelry store. She has a sister, Eloise, born in 1981, with whom she gets along very well, and two daughters -- my sisters Remi and Josie. Both are bigger than me.

My aunt Eloise also helps in the store five days a week.

Also always in our house is our cousin Serenity, aunt Eloise's daughter. She's my same age.

You could say that we all live together.

Sometimes it's a lot of fun. Sometimes not so much. Specially when all them start talking about "women things".
