Facing the altar Father Anselm made the sign of the cross “In nómine Patris, et Fílii, et Spíritus Sancti,” Father Anselm chanted.
“Amen,” the congregation replied in the same tone. “Almighty God, unto whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy name; Through Christ our Lord.”
“Amen,” the congregation intoned. Father Anselm turned to the people and said: “Hear what our Lord Jesu Christ sayeth, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is likened to it: thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” he turned back to the altar as the schola chanted the Kyrie and the Gloria.

As Father Anslem prayed the Collect, Sister Helena fixed her intentions for the liturgy. “I offer this liturgy for my teammates, for Simon and his family, and for the repose of the soul of Patrick Larkin... for all of them!” And then she quickly added, “and for my own healing, Lord.” As Father Anselm sat the congregation sat as well and one of the older men rose from his seat on the sanctuary. He opened the lectionary and proclaimed the epistle to the of Saint Paul to the Ephesians. The epistle spoke of being renewed in the Spirit and putting on the new self. Following the Epistle, the schola chanted the Gradual.
“Let my prayer be set forth in Thy sight as the incense, O Lord. Let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice.”
