Halcyon Enterprises' entry into the mech sector was something of a curveball. Unlike many of the other major mech companies, Halcyon didn't start as a mech business, nor did it spin off from a related industry like cars or aerospace. Instead, Halcyon was a medtech company, building AI surgical robots and personal medical devices. Halcyon's CEO, Tristan Glass, justified this to his shareholders by citing the applications of the company's medtech to mecha.
Halcyon's first mech, the ETV Tensei, was an instant success; ETV stands for Experimental Technology Vehicle. It was the first mech to use Aetherite, a mysterious substance found in Nigeria. Aetherite enhances the connection between a mech and its pilot; an odd side effect is that every mech using Aetherite parts develops highlights that resemble the tribal markings on structures found near Aetherite deposits. These highlights vary in brightness depending on how intensely the mech is being used.
