They had been through virtual hell together, and now nothing could tear them apart, though it was not for lack of their enemies' efforts.

Safe now in the city of Daerfall, the two elves attempt to make a new life away from all the darkness and thieving they knew before. They have a second chance now, and they intend to make the best of it.

But trouble is brewing, and revenge is its name. The mage is searching for Tyelion and Embyrn, and he will stop at nothing to lure them back into his clutches. Kozandel has become even more of a hell than it was before. The city's gutters might as well run with crimson. Embyrn and Tyelion are left with choices they wish they could flee from.
