A problematic approach is viewing happiness as a destination, a phantom city on the horizon that promises to meet all your needs—a new job, a new relationship, or more money, all with the assurance of long-term happiness. But when you acquire them, you soon discover that the good times don’t last forever. That’s the problem with happiness based on phantom cities: When they vanish, you find yourself right back where you started—searching for happiness again.
A realistic portrait of a young woman with light brown hair and blue eyes. The image features soft, golden lighting and a warm atmosphere, reminiscent of naturalistic portraiture.

Gorgeous portrait, such an intent focused look.
You are so right about happiness, chasing that next "I'll be happy when . . . ." All are ephemeral as you say.
Based on this you may enjoy a book I am just finishing up "Into the Magic Shop" by Dr James Doty.
Very pretty with dark hair and blue eyes! It's better to consider happiness as the road itself. Happiness is in the journey.
The whole picture is beautiful but the eyes are full of life!!

It's interesting what you wrote of happiness. To me, it feels vain to search for happiness. I find it comes to me unbidden going through life. In winter, it's more elusive as winters where I am are almost always overcast, dreary, wet and grey, and I have SADD. I dislike that acronym as I don't get sad but feel bleak and very unmotivated. It's mainly a winter thing. Still, happiness can happen just like that from some small trigger. Yesterday evening, I spent 'walking about the narrow streets in Athens' taking note of different vines, shrubs and flowers growing about the walls and buildings. I did my viewing using Google Street view, even if it's old. I loved being able to identify most of the plants. It's simple small things that make me happiest - finding a pretty big id never seen before a young friend big ornate Indian earrings I had since she loved them and loves big earrings. It's close friends and nature things that I find foster happiness best both in me and dear friends.
