In the mid 19 century the Whig Party ("Partei") was big in the UK & in the US. It is pronounced the same as wig party (Perückenparty / Tuntenball). 

Haha, that's a great idea! Super, Lupus! I know the Whigs (John Stuart Mill, whom I have studied a lot, was a member), but I didn't know the English word for “Perücke”. Thank you for the clarification! When it comes to puns, I often don't know which word is affected.
