The village bells rang out for the noon hour. Sister Helena bowed her head and prayed the Angelus. She prayed soto voce so as not to disturb or offend her teammates, though her teammates were well aware of her prayer life.
They arrived at the stables. Edward was waiting for them, saddling his horse. “Welcome back, SG-24,” he said. “Are you finished with Starfire and Mildred?”
“Aye. Thank you for letting us use them.” Fairbairn replied.
“You're very welcome, Miss Fairbairn.” He paused, working some courage for what he wanted to say to the Scot. “Would you mind if we could meet up at the pub later this evening? If... If it's all right with your commander.”
Fairbairn looked at Colonel Larkin who gave her a “It's all right with me” look. She smiled. “I'd love that, Edward,” she said.
“So... an hour after Evensong sounds fine with you?” Edward asked.

“It's a date!” Fairbairn replied with enthusiasm. However, Edward was puzzled with Fairbairn’s words. Izzy understood and repeated her phrase in words Edward would understand. “We are agreed!”
“Shall I collect you from your base?”
“Oh yes please, kind Edward,” Fairbairn replied. “See you then.” Edward nodded and went back to his work and took off on his mount.
Bjornson had a wild look in his eye and said, “An evening at the tavern, eh? Careful, Squadron Leader, you'll have the poor lad begging quarter before the night’s through.”
Helena pressed her lips together, trying not to laugh.
Larkin folded his arms. “Enjoy yourself, Fairbairn. Do you remember that we're diplomats as well as soldiers,” he said.
“I hardly plan to start a bar fight," Fairbairn said dryly.
Bjornson grinned. "Just don't break his heart too quick. The villagers might never forgive us."
