Abstragony
A surreal close-up of a Cape Buffalo's face dissolving into a dreamscape. Warm golden light contrasts with dark blues and purples in this oil on canvas, creating a double exposure effect.

If I remember properly, Gerald Durrell wrote about one rhino he safely encountered. Rhinos tend to be a little nervous thanks to their poor eyesight. He watched how a large frog from a nearby waterhole and jumping out on the grasses. It startled the rhino who whirled its head around. Of course, if it was something big like a lion or buffalo, it would make enough shape for the rhino to see and possibly recognise. But it couldn't see anything. The frog started jumping again and in its panic, the rhino charged and missed. The frog jumped again and the rhino whittled about and charged once more - this time, pulverizing the poor frog into pulp under its feet!
Wow! This is amazing. I really don't know which animal I'd be more terrified at being alone with on the African plains - a lion, a rhino or a Cape buffalo. (Hippos are also VERY terrifying but I would find one that far from water.) It's funny that I've had dreams, yes, scary but not a nightmare, where a rhino was charging me. I know they've got notoriously bad vision so they often rely on their hearing to know where to charge. In my dream, I held my breath, heart beating like crazy and laid low and don't move a muscle. Always woke in time.
