**1993: Carmina (5/5). Black Day. Part 1.**

He knew something was wrong.
Romina had taken him aside, with that look that didn't even express pity, but just a kind of cautious objectivity.

“Finni... I'm supposed to give you a message.”

His stomach tightened.

He knew it before she said it.

“Carmina... is breaking up with you.”

There it was. Just like that.

A sentence that triggered a feeling inside him, as if he were slowly melting away.

Romina didn't avoid his gaze. She knew him well enough to know that he needed an explanation.

“She said... she had the feeling you're not ready yet.”

Finnis thoughts raced.

“Not ready... for what?”

Romina kicked a stone. “She would have liked you to kiss her.”

**Part 2.** He didn't know what hit him more - that she broke up with him or that she didn't even say it herself.

He nodded slowly. Took note of it.

“Thanks for letting me know,” he muttered and left.

He didn't know where to go.

Just away.

The room was bathed in dark shadows. Only the pale light of the hallway fell through the crack of the door and cast a dull rectangle on the floor. Muffled voices penetrated from outside – laughter, conversations, the distant creaking of a door. But here, in the small, darkened room, everything felt strangely heavy.

Finni sat on his bed, gazing at the pattern on the blanket. His fingers clutched the edge of the bed as if they could prevent his thoughts from continuing to drift.

Robin sat on the upper level of the bunk bed, his legs dangling over the edge. He said nothing. That was the good thing about Robin – he knew when you just had to be there.

Then, after a while:
“Stupid day, isn't it?”

**Part 3.** Finni snorted. “Feel free to understate.”

Robin nodded sympathetically. ‘Yeah. It really was a crappy day.”

A pause.

“Does it hurt?’ Robin finally asked, without looking directly at him.
Finni hesitated. His fingers traced the pattern on the blanket. ”Yes.”
He knew that he wasn't *really* in love with Carmina. He knew that it was different from his feelings for Alia, different from his feelings for Julia in elementary school. And very different from what he felt for Danny.

But still.

For two days he had believed that someone might finally be interested in him. That he wasn't just the spotty nerd who was bad at sports and resorted to verbal sparring because he never knew how to allow himself to be truly close to someone.

And now it was over.

Robin slid down from the edge of the bed and landed with a dull sound. He sat down on the floor in front of Finni. 

“She's stupid.”

Finni grimaced. “She's not stupid.”
