Interesting concept, what would these be called and what do they eat?

The working name for them right now are Moonswifts, but that is mostly a placeholder and can change if I think of a better name. They are bred and raised in aviaries by the Priesthood of the Ivory Oasis; they are fully domesticated and no known examples of wild Moonswifts have been reported in thousands of years. Because of their being fed by the royalty and the priesthood, they have a very decadent palette. Multiple special dishes are prepared for them, based on the time of year and each Moonswift's personal taste. In fact, being a chef for the aviaries is a distinguished title among those who practice the culinary arts. These dishes usually consist of a mixture of various rodent meats, hare meat (there are many variations of the hare in the Fourteen Deserts, such as the Ember Hare of the Ember Wastes, which is prized for the natural spiciness of its meat), and serpent meat. These dishes are usually heavily sauced with native herbs, spices, and honey.

Very nice image, and very nice concept. I'm currently doing something similar, but only with science fiction. Do you have a chat room or forum where you share more of your progress? 

In the world I am building, these are rare mounts used as the most efficient form of transportation in the Fourteen Deserts. They can only be legally owned by members of the priesthood of the Ivory Oasis and distinguished heroes hand-selected by the King-Under-the-Black-Star.
