(For a challenge, not really my parents) - My parents' 50th anniversary, still very much in love

My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with Dementia and moved in with my mother in 2000. My grandmother left this world in 2008. The eight years were very hard on my mother as she watched the mother she knew vanish right before her. In the end, my grandmother didn't know anybody anymore. My mother called it "The longest Goodbye", and I can see where she's coming from. For eight very hard years, slowly bit by bit...she was enduring her mother going away even though her body was still alive. Mom told me that she had mentally had her mother's funeral in her mind long before the actual funeral in June of 2008. Of all the things to have happen, I wouldn't wish Dementia or Alzheimers on anybody....

My father passed away shortly before me 17th birthday.

So people who get to enjoy both parents are very very blessed indeed.

I have a very profound respect for somebody who has had to deal with this first hand with a loved one.

You are a strong and beautiful person. ♥♥♥
