Citrus thrips Scirtothrips aurantii are a major economic pest for citrus farmers.
They feed under the calyx at the stem end of immature fruit. This leaves patches or rings of scarring on the skin of the mature fruit.
The damage is purely cosmetic, but it does make the fruit unappealing to consumers.
This detailed painterly watercolor shows a tiny yellow-brown thrips insect feeding on a small green citrus fruit. Visible brushstrokes and bleeding colors create a delicate scientific illustration.

I felt this was likely yours, Charlie. It's a beautiful watercolour of a less than likeable creature. I'm no fan of thrips as they've done their share of damage to my plants and gardens in the past - though not this one since citrus don't grow this far north. But your image is really lovely and I wish it had scored higher.
Many thanks to you all for your delightful entries ,next round has started
