The wind howled and its claws ripped at Paprika's cloak as she clung onto the icy rocks. Every step was a fight: the snowstorm churned around her, threatening to fling her from the narrow path. Her body groaned from the cold, but pressed on she did, eyes narrowed against the gale. The warmth of her last meal was by now a faraway dream, but enough to keep her going.
The purpose of her journey pulsed in the back of her mind, like a heartbeat: there was something out there that needed finding. The tempest surroundings raged on. She couldn't stop now. Firm, with her front paws stuck in the snow, she fought against the elements.
Ahead, dimly visible through the snow blinding her, were rocks with shadows, a refuge. She would make it. She had to.
