Very sad! I had heard about this, but never been to Buffalo

It's where I grew up. It was having a bit of a renaissance from about 2005 to 2018, and the 2008/9 housing bubble bursting didn't affect it much since it didn't have the bubble and instead had a steadier growth.

Unfortunately, current leadership is abysmal and Covid shutdowns did a number on it.

From Busy to Abandoned

At one point, Buffalo was the 3rd largest railroad hub in the world, after Moscow and NYC. And this was the 3rd busiest passenger station in the US (NYC & Chicago). An Art Deco masterpiece like Buffalo's City Hall, it has been moldering for decades, although there have been many attempts to restore it.
