The Chase

Bright city lights glaring in my eye

Cars rushing past the stop signs

Buildings of red soaring into the sky

Just chaotic sounds and twisting lines.

So dark I can’t see the stars

Gazing out over the checkered sea

Looking up beyond the scars

Is that golden light calling to me?

~

Running and running as fast as I can

Crashing through the forest of ebony

Chasing behind with an outstretched hand

Following this shining mystery.

~

Branches catch holding me back

The stumbling stones roll in my way

Falling again, covered in black

I can’t let the light get away.

~

Stumbling up a hill of sand

Where the evening is passing by

The light settles softly in my hand

A smile as a tear falls from my eye

Next to the glowing firefly.
