In 1453 Constantinople fell to Ottomans... The last emperor, Constantine XI died in battle (Rhaegar) and even Turkish Sultan Mehmed II noticed enemy's bravery.... Poor, weakened by silly rlers, betraying mercenaries and plagues, just like unsuccessfull state decisions, the roman Empire fell... forever. In few passing years the Morean despotate (southern Greece) was conquered
But, the little Boat escaped the Bospor straight - there was Constantine's brother Foma and little Nephew (Foma died in 1465) Andreas...and also his younger sister Sophia and her twin brother Manuilos... they ran away to Italy - search for help of European rulers (Alongside with them, many byzantine scholars ran from Greece in europe, which caused boom of Byzantine studies... and pique of interest in antiquity, which brought to Rennaisanse). Here they originally were met with huge interest and welcoming, but the time passed, the idea of antiottoman crusade failed, Mehed calmly sat on his throne in Constantinoples.
This image depicts a majestic Byzantine princess in medieval Russia, with intricate details and deep colors. A stunning work of fantasy concept art, featuring a beautiful young woman with long black hair and a warm smile, adorned with a Byzantine crown.

The fourth part.
From this marriage Ivan got new young wife and prestige, even the claim on Roman heritage, Pope - possibly ally in futre war with Ottomans, and Catholic Russian ruler (Especially for this marriage stood so called "cardinal Vissarion"), Andreas - some strong ruler to give "rightful Basileus" an army to reconquer his empire. Overall profit! Just one person's opinion, of course, did not matter to Paul and Andreas, opinion of Sophia. But who cared about bride!
Eleventh february, greek Georgius-Yurii, courtier of mentioned Vissarion (with two italians - Carlo and his son Antonio who wer) arrived in Moscow as messenger from pope and proposed grand prince Ivan the third in presence of all the nobles ("Boyars"), Ivan's mother (Maria of Borovsk), metropolitan of Moscow Philip the first (Actually greek), Ivan's younger brothers (Yurii, prince of Dmitrov, Andrey, prince of Uglich, Boris, prince of Volotsk, and 17 years old Andrey, prince of Vologda) and Ivan's son and heir Ivan
Dear @ESnicket , what is going on? Two of your comments dissappeared without a sight? Is this some sort of Mehmed's magic?
Hey, do you know about the Blues and the Greens in the Byzantine Empire? (Sounds like Blacks vs. Greens to me.)

THE THIRD PART!
As Andreas, Sophia and Manuel stayed in Italy the Hope became smaller and smaller, and Sophia grew... SAhe became very kin on antiquity (No wonder, she is Niece of Roman Emperor), art and literature... Some believe, on men company too, but there are no sources... Palaeologues converted into Catholicism, by Papal insist, but even this did not Help. She was bethrothed already to two men, but both died very fastly. (Margaery, hello!) Andreas was desperately trying to find an ally, for this he decided to use Sophia's marruisage as way. He and the Pope (In whose palace and on whose money "The Basileus of Romeans" lived on decided to make a proposal for recently widowed Grand Prince (Great Knyaz) of Moscow Ivan the Third Riourikid (Or Riurikovich) who was 15 years older than Sophia (His first wife, Maria of Tver, salso Riourikid, just anotherline of dynsasty, recently died in age of twenty five, probably of poison)..
Beautiful portrait, and thank you for another history lesson!

Ottoman conquests in Balkans and Small Asia continued, meanwhile their possible invasion in Italy was stopped by Hungarians. Local balkan great rulers: Hungarian king Matyas Hunyadi (called Corvinus, or raven in Latin), Moldavian hospodar Stefan Mushat "Cel Mare" (Great in Moldavian), and Valachian domnul Vlad Bassarab "Drakula" (Yes, yes, that one) were much more interested in protecting their own lands from Turks than "Restoring Byzantine empire", Paleologues family has become just "Very noble guests" in italian corts. So, the exctase andexcitement faded, Italian condottiers (mercenaries) just laughed on Andreas claiming that "they should return him Throne of Romeans", palaces' doors closed and soon Andreas, Sophia and Manuilos became just "royal survivors" in the retinue of Pope Paul the second....

This embassy proposed Ivan to marry Sophia, as member of Emperor's dynasty. While telling this proposal, Italian embassadors hid the fact that both Paleologues converted into Catholicism. After short council with Boyars, mother and metropolitain of Moscow, grand Prince willingly accepted. Mostly he was led by Sophia's title, since widowed ruler of Moscow already had a son - Ivan "the young one". Soon he sent Ivan Fryazin (Fryazin was Russian word for Italian, based on surname Frezini), or in real name, Giambattista Della Volpe (That's why, since Volpe means Fox, in Russian he was called "Lisitsin", "Lisitsa" or "Lisa" means fox in this language - this person had his own subplot full of intrigues. Adventurer and diplomat, during these two years he had very interesting try to gain respect and power...) to Rome, directly to Paul the second. Pope greeted embassador with big honour, Giambattista was allowed to
