The 1974 Jamie Uys movie "Animals are Beautiful People" is largely responsible for the story of animals becoming drunk on over-ripe marula fruit. The first clip (below) is what many people remember. However, it has been largely discredited, and Uys has been accused of doctoring the fruit to get the footage. Even if it is largely a myth, it is a sticky one that resonates with many people. A better clip of vervet monkeys eating marulas is shown in the second clip.
