Thank you for participating in the first (of a long series to come) challenge devoted to Subtle Horror, in which we try to scare each other without resorting to blood, guts and drooling zombies.

The key is right here: without resorting to gory imagery. While we are totally glad of the wonderful entries in the very first edition, undoubtedly there were some that we were (alas) forced to reject.

Hopefully, as the weeks go by and this challenge grows, the concept of Subtle Horror will become clearer and clearer to everyone. Nightcafe is full of beautiful horror challenges (which I for one am very happy to participate in!) dominated by “strong” and often gruesome images.

Not here. In view of the second Subtle Horror Challenge that is about to start, I again invite you to read carefully the criteria.
