Hannah Höch (Anna Therese Johanne Höch; 1889 – 1978) was a German artist, who was a co-founder of the Berlin Dada group, an avant-garde art movement. Höch was known for her provocative photomontage compositions that explored perceptions of gender and ethnic differences during the Weimar era. Her art technique involved transforming newspaper and magazine cuttings with her scalpel until they bore little resemblance to their original forms. This innovative approach to the appropriate materials was characteristic of her work. Despite the fracturing of the Berlin Dada group in the early 1920s, Höch continued to create socially critical work.
