First off--beautiful woman with a wonderful dress and fantastic smile. The dress seems modern, not specific to any culture. Next, the Native American Woman...I'm no expert, but I believe her costume is an amalgam of several different cultures, not one specific one. Last, the white guy in the royal outfit stands as an example of his class in the era of Imperialism. That much seems clear. The two background figures could be wax figures in a museum. The only one who seems alive is your figure up front. I'm with you that far, but I'm missing something, I fear. Are you saying that our foreground woman is free & happy while the other figures are stuck in the past, where they weren't happy even when they were alive? Maybe more obvious than that, but I'm not quite on the same page you are. Enlightenment, please.
