Best Friends Forever... Part 4

Studying into the evening would turn into movie nights and sleepovers. Always at my house, but never at hers.

I asked her about it once. She said her dad was always out of town on business and she didn't like being stuck in the house with her stepmom. I don't think they got along.

We'd take turns picking movies. I didn't normally like horror movies, but she loved them. So when she picked one, she'd spend half the movie making fun of the monster or the main character's dumb decision-making skills. It seems pointing out the absurdity of it all would usually lessen the scariness for me.

I was still afraid sometimes, though. She'd just laugh and put an arm around me while I buried my face into her shoulder whenever the monster appeared on screen and run a comforting hand through my hair.

I don't think she ever realized it, but scary movie or not, nights like these had become the highlight of my week.
