1: The thwarted escape and execution of Tasha Yar was filmed. But during editing, Roddenberry decided not to actually show any of these two scenes. Coming out of hostile Sela's mouth, he wanted to leave it open wether Tasha Yar was *really* dead or just allegedly so. Nurturing the Trekkies' hope for the return of that beloved character, maybe, some day, making her even more legendary.


2: The reality behind this: Everything is true, save one thing: These two scenes, to my knowledge, were never filmed.

Created for the Star Trek: The Next Generation Challenge

Denise Crosby got bored in her role as Tasha Yar, as she got nothing to do, let alone develop her character. At the end of season 1 she asked to be released. She got the most bland character death in scifi history. 

That however, Gene Roddenberry turned into an advantage, when bringing her back for an alternate timeline in the future, in which she was still alive. Learning of her senseless death shortly before restoring the original timeline, Picard let her go back in time to die an heroic death.

Crosby was happy with her sudden central role and pitched her return as her daughter Sela, half Romulan. For she didn't die any death in the past as expected, but was forced to marry a Romulan. After some years, she attempted to escape with Sela, but the child screamed when she realized what she considered to be a betrayal against her father.  (continued in comments)

The Halls of Mandos held the souls of the dead Children of Ilúvatar, and were the dwelling place of Námo Mandos, Doomsman of the Valar.

It was to the Halls of Mandos that the spirits of the Children of Ilúvatar were gathered to await their different fates, and so Mandos was given its common name of the 'Halls of Waiting'. The Elves, after a period of cleansing and self-reflection, could be reincarnated into bodies identical to those of their prior life; however, Elves who had offended the Valar or committed particularly heinous misdeeds were doomed to wait in the halls until the end of time.

But Glorfindel's spirit passed The Halls of Mandos for a short time. Due to his noble actions that had saved many Elves in the Fall of Gondolin, he was re-embodied and dwelt in Valinor.
