Ariadne led Grant back through the forest. After walking for five hours, carefully avoiding the enemy’s helicopters and search parties as they crossed roads and fields, they arrived at a large farmhouse surrounded by forests and fields. “Here?” Grant asked. “Yes,” Ariadne answered. She walked up to the front porch and opened the door. “It’s not locked?” Grant asked. “No.” She led him down some stairs to a basement, and then felt along the walls until there was a click and a hidden door swung open revealing a dark passageway. Grabbing two flashlights and two pistols that were among an assortment of miscellaneous things that were sitting on the dirt floor just inside the door, she distributed them among herself and Grant. “There,” she said, beginning to walk down the passage. “Wait,” Grant said grabbing her arm. “Let me go first.” She regarded him in silence for a moment, then nodded. Grant moved ahead of her, switching on his light and holding his gun at the ready, just in case.
