Looking down from the top of a spiral staircase, I gaze out over the winding descent, where overhanging vines have begun to cover some of the weathered rails, their dark, twisted tendrils snaking across the metal like skeletal fingers. The air is heavy with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, and the flickering light of a nearby candelabra casts eerie shadows on the walls, creating an atmosphere of dark foreboding and mysterious unease.
