Morning came heavy with smoke. Barricades of plywood covered the hotel’s broken windows. The official log called it “minor disturbance.” Isla still heard the screams in her head.

Mahdi brought her tea, his hand steady despite the bruises on his arm. “You should sleep.”

“They’ll come back,” she murmured.

“Then let us not waste the hours we still have.”

He poured. Their fingers brushed again, and this time Isla didn’t pull away. When he leaned closer, she kissed him, slow now, not desperate but deliberate. The taste of tea lingered on their lips.

Later, in a narrow staff room with the blinds drawn, their closeness deepened into an intimacy wordless but undeniable. The world outside was hostile, but in that hidden hour, they chose to be only themselves: two people refusing to be broken by the walls around them.




Snow returned, softening nothing. Isla sat in her patrol car with Mahdi’s scarf in her lap. The radio barked: Unrest reported near the hotel. Secure perimeter. Protect property. Prevent escalation. Repeat — focus on premises, not on residents.

She pressed the scarf to her face, breathing in the faint trace of him. Then she started the engine, knowing the night ahead would test them both beyond words.

London glowed under a harsher light. Ellie sat in the back of a car, glass towers rushing by. Kahlil was beside her, hood drawn low. At the studio, his voice poured into the microphone like fire, his lyrics sharp with survival.

She listened, transfixed. Afterward, when the others had gone, he pulled her into the shadowed corner. Their mouths met again, urgent this time, and she let him guide her into the warmth of his world.

Later, in the dim light, their bodies pressed close on the studio couch, they found a tenderness that surprised them both. She thought of Worthington Hall, of ancestors framed in gold, and realised she had crossed a threshold none of them could have imagined.

“Too heavy for you?” he asked softly.

“It’s the truth,” she whispered. “And I want the truth.”

His hand lingered on hers. For the first time in his songs and her silences, they discovered what it meant to belong.


Meanwhile, Tariq, Rhys, and Mo whispered in the back of a club. Suspicion spread like smoke: one of their own accused of betrayal. A hit was planned in the shadows, even as Kahlil held Ellie close, unaware that loyalty and death were being bartered just a room away.

Me, too. I had a better image, but AI decided to give one of them a club foot to ruin it. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use the fixing tools, and I've heard from the people who do know how, Flux-Pro doesn't like having it's work altered. But thanks for the kudos. I wanted the sun coming up, but AI doesn't seem to care what you want. It takes certain prompts and completely ignores the others. (Some guys will sit through 40-50 iterations to get what they want.) I don't do that. Even with small changes in prompting after 4-5 tries I'm done.

The night tore itself apart again in Sheffield. Smoke and sirens mingled with the roar of boots and glass breaking. Isla braced herself at the entrance, radio spitting cold commands: Maintain order. Protect assets. Avoid unnecessary confrontation.

But confrontation had already come. Children cried into their mothers’ coats as masked figures pressed against the barricades. Mahdi threw his shoulder into the door, but the weight outside was greater. “They’ll break through,” he said.

Then, in the chaos, his eyes met hers. She reached for him as if the world had shrunk to that single point. They kissed, fierce and desperate, a confession with no time for words.

The barricade gave way. Figures poured in, fists and iron bars swinging. Isla raised her baton, but she was swallowed by noise and numbers. Mahdi pulled the boy from the first night behind him, shielding him with his own body. A blow landed — then another. He staggered.


She screamed, but the sound dissolved into the din. When the riot dispersed, he was still, blood pooling beneath his head. Isla clutched his hand, already cold, as his scarf slipped from her grasp.

The report would call it “public disorder.” Her colleagues shrugged, papers piling on their desks. “These things take time,” one muttered, filing the case away. She saw the truth in their smirks, the deliberate delay. Justice was never meant to come for him.
