Kaley waited for the asteroid's tumble to eclipse the distant pirate vessels and vectored in a straight line before zig-zagging leisurely through boulders and dust-gravel clouds. Shika unplugged all the wires from the data recorder and coiled them in their appropriate storage nooks. By the time she'd hooked them up for standard long-range commo, three of her screens lit up with scrolling crystal-wave chatter.

"Tapzin Clans, Tapzin City, and the fleet are lit up with chatter," Shika said. A fourth display fluttered with intermittent life. "And Ultra-long range."

"Big 'something' happened, then." Lt. Kaley changed over for more open spaces between rocks. "Give me some numbers to get us back fast. Then tell me what the talk is."
