... They hugged — carefully, slowly. Cloth against cloth. A quiet, firm embrace.

“Should we celebrate?” her mother asked as they pulled apart, eyes shining.

Nele nodded. “Yes. I’d like that.”

They went into the kitchen together. There was fresh bread, dates, sliced apples, and sweet mint tea. Her mother had even placed a small flower in a glass jar on the table — a white ranunculus.

They ate and spoke softly. Of poetry. Of ancestors. Of hidden strength. The conversation danced like light through trees. ...
