And then there was Anubis. Guide of souls, weigher of hearts, protector of tombs. Son of divine Isis, brother to gentle Bastet and splendid Horus. When Set killed divine Osiris, Anubis helped divine Isis to embalm and preserve his body.
He had been tasked with guarding the souls of the kingdom. When the Nilians took leave of their wordly incarnation, Anubis would judge the weight of her hearts. Those deemed worthy he would guide into the Sacred Land. The unworthy would be devoured by relentless Ammit, so that no soul would haunt the kingdom.
He had been chosen for the mission because they needed a worthy judge. Had the droughts been the result of a plot against the kingdom, Bastet would find them, Horus would put a stop to it, and Anubis would know what to do with those found guilty of the plot.
This image shows Anubis with a canine head, wearing a tuxedo in front of a derelict manor. The illustration has a gritty, moody graphic novel aesthetic with watercolour textures and Art Nouveau influences.
