the thing in the lake

The early morning air, thick with mist, clings to your skin, cold as death. The landscape is shrouded in eerie shadows, the rising sun just beginning to cast a faint glow to the east. A strange stillness pervades the lake, interrupted only by the soft splash of small fish. Suddenly, something breaks the glassy surface, a large, sinuous form moving slowly just beneath. A chill runs down your spine as you think you can discern a long, reptilian neck, followed by a sleek body disappearing back into the depths.
