Peter Max

Peter Max (Peter Max Finkelstein; 1937 – ) is a German-Jewish artist, who currently resides in the USA. Known for his vibrant use of colours, Max’s work is closely associated with the visual arts and culture of the 1960s, particularly Psychedelic Art and Pop Art. His art style synthesised the “Summer of Love” into various forms of artwork, from canvas to mugs, clocks, scarves, clothes, and even cruise ships. Max’s interest in astronomy contributed to his self-described “Cosmic 1960s” period, which featured what became identified as Psychedelic, counter-culture imagery. His technique often incorporated antique photographic images as elements of collage. Even though he lived in numerous different places all over the world, his art remained constant, reflecting his appreciation for art and his unique interpretation of the world.
