This made it to 5 likes quickly compared to what I usually get. Impressive, considering I was never actually in drum corps, only marching band. And our uniforms didn't look like this. But maybe they should have. The first person to successfully use a pair of tonfa as drumsticks wins a free internet.

Marching band and drum corps are mostly American traditions, but Japan has a few of these groups. Japan was an isolationist nation from the start of the Tokugawa Shogunate in 1600 to the Meiji Restoration in the late 1800s, and it had no major wars during this period. Radio was invented soon after, meaning that marching musicians were no longer needed to convey orders to troops, so Japan effectively skipped the era of history in which marching band would have come into being.
