My references were Pink Floyd's "The Wall" album, George Orwell's "1984", Brutalist architecture, and military forces occupying other people's territories.
There was more than enough to get bleak, desolate and hopeless images. But incredibly orderly, no?

Also am a total Floyd fan; the Wall is classic, I know it well, and I enjoy it, and also albums Dark Side & Wishโas much or more than The WallโI just prefer lighter and brighter in most of my entertainment I guess. Now I'm going to go listen to some Floyd for the next bout of writing.
