Manfred Albrecht, Freiherr von Richthofen, born May 2, 1892 in Breslau and died April 21, 1918 in Vaux-sur-Somme, is a German aviator who became an aviation legend of the First World War.

At the time, he was known in France under the nicknames "Red Baron" or "Red Devil", but since then, the nickname given by British aviators ("the Red Baron") has ended. by imposing itself to the point of replacing its authentic name in popularity.

With 80 confirmed victories, according to the German counting system, he is the ace of German flying aces of the First World War. Hauptmann in the famous Jasta 11, his fame is linked to that of his Fokker Dr.I Triplan painted in bright red instead of the traditional camouflage colors, hence his nickname.

The Red Baron died of a bullet in the chest but managed to land the triplane intact. He succumbed to his injuries a few seconds later, not before sighing "Kaputt" and pointing to his plane.
