On November 16, 1532, Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro captured Inca Emperor Atahualpa in the town of Cajamarca, Peru.
Atahualpa, whose full name was Atahualpa Inca, was the last ruling emperor of the Inca Empire.
At the time of his capture, he had recently emerged victorious in a civil war against his brother, Huáscar, consolidating power over the empire.
This internal conflict weakened the Inca, leaving them vulnerable to Pizarro’s relatively small force of around 160 Spaniards, despite their numerical disadvantage against the Inca army of thousands.
