Hollywood in the forms of Bran Stoker and Anne Rice, plus the suspicious people of the 16th to 19th centuries have done more to hurt bats than anyone.  In Romania, Vlad the Impaler was thought to be the original "Dracula" and the fact that most bats are night creatures gave rise to many untruths since people fear nighttime.  This creation can be seen as I said in my other comment as a nod to the Meatloaf song and Album and / or a battle mechanized warrior of a robot army or some sort.  :-)  

ohhhh looks fierce.  I am familiar with the Meatloaf song and album "Bat out of Hell".  I am guessing that is your reference in the above piece?   Something like that or a BATtle ready meca from a robot army, perhaps?
