July 20th, 2060 — Outside New Los Angeles, Deadlands
The air outside the city was like a furnace, waves of scorching heat rolling across the barren landscape. The sky, a pale, washed-out yellow, stretched endlessly above the cracked earth. In every direction, there was nothing but desolation—no trees, no grass, just the crumbling remnants of a world that had once thrived. The megacities stood like islands in a sea of ruin, encased in their domes, safe from the unforgiving climate beyond their borders.
Daniel Harper led his small group of Christians through the Deadlands, their faces streaked with sweat and exhaustion as they trudged forward. The once lush and vibrant planet was now a graveyard, its surface scorched by years of global warming and neglect. The journey had been long, and the heat bore down on them relentlessly, but they were close now. The safehouse—an old, abandoned bunker left over from the days of the Sundering—was just ahead.
A detailed matte painting of a desolate desert landscape under a scorching sun. Fantastical rock formations and glowing embers dot the sand, with an otherworldly atmosphere in deep, vibrant colors.

“Keep moving,” Daniel called back to the group, his voice hoarse from the dry air. “We’re almost there.”
A few of the younger children stumbled behind him, their faces red from the heat, their steps faltering. One of them, a small boy named Aaron, lagged behind, dragging his feet through the dust. He looked up at Daniel with wide eyes, fear and confusion etched into his face.
“Why is it so hot, Daniel?” Aaron asked, his voice barely audible over the dry wind. “Was it always like this?”
Daniel slowed his pace, allowing the boy to catch up. He looked down at Aaron, feeling a pang of sadness. This was the only world the boy had ever known—a world where the sun beat down mercilessly, where the air was thick with pollution, and where the natural beauty of the earth had long since faded into memory.
