ℹ️ The aurora borealis, or northern lights, occur when charged particles from the sun collide with atoms in Earth's atmosphere. While commonly green, the lights can also appear red, blue, yellow, or violet, depending on the type of gas and altitude of the collision. An obscure fact is that these lights produce faint sounds, described as claps or crackles, which have been reported by observers for centuries but were only scientifically confirmed in 2016. Additionally, Jupiter and Saturn also experience auroras, but unlike Earth's, theirs are primarily driven by their strong magnetic fields and interactions with their moons.
