Head Bored [with original sonnet]

Are we more than what we appear to be?/ Or are we simply flesh and blood and bone?/ Why we obsess with what the eye can't see/ cannot be understood or ever known.

We can't, in fact, divine the true divine./ What do we think when we behold the dawn?/ Why when we stand, our heads to sky aligned,/ do we contemplate cosmos and beyond?

Humanity's ambitious to define/ spiritual, righteous, and unearthly things./ We've undertaken great pains to assign/ meanings for to vapid lives to cling.

Does our existence, then, mean any less/ if we refuse, neglect to contemplate/ the sky and stars, opt instead for repressed/ oblivion in horizontal state?

I would give anything to have my way/ and keep my dreams any and every day.
