"That's the mood window, when it's set for it," Skish explained to Tentin. "Charmed crystals and glass."

"Crystals?" Tentin asked. "In all the windows?"

"Well not charmed ones, all, but ya. That's what makes em change, refraction, or reflection. Maybe both, I know there's mirrors, too." Skish tossed up a paw in mock helplessness. "Anyway. Lizi turns it on sometimes, when Maz isn't here."

Tentin was going to ask who Maz was, but Lizi seemed to suddenly notice he was there, and out of place. She casually turned an unseen dial, and the pink cloud in the window dissolved into empty space, which turned the woman's face down even more for a split second.

"You're up late, stranger," she said wearily, but not unkindly. She smiled politely. "Maybe not a stranger. Aren't you a reporter?"

"Tentin, Tri-Nation News, yes," he said sheepishly.
