Back in 1988, my husband and I moved to the town near where I grew up on a farm.
Population: less than 200.
Between my parents, one other person, and my husband and I, we had enough people to start a Society for Creative Anachronisms Shire.
We thought long and hard about a name for the group. We pretty quickly came up with the idea of a rampant flying Pig for the shield device (a sort of a group logo).
Upon coming up with the idea, we remembered a bit of town history. It seems two tribes decided to do battle over stolen horses while on Elijah Filley's farmstead. All that bluff and bluster, it seems there was only one casualty: Elijah Filley's pig "was shot in the ham with an arrow.".
This we added the arrow to the device design, and called the shire "Fletchinham"
