The Snawfus is an albino deer, a mythical creature of regional folklore that is said to roam the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri. It is described as an all-white, winged, deer-like creature, but much larger, with dogwood branches in full bloom growing from its head instead of antlers. It flies without making a sound like an owl. It gives off spirals of blue smoke, exhaling blue mist from its mouth, which drifts upwards towards the sky, forming a blue haze of clouds only during the autumn season. The antlers of the Snawfus are said to be the living branches of a dogwood tree, and are often depicted as having blossoms on them as well as green leaves. Some say it is the white stag of Arthurian legends in the British Isles. Both are white deer who appear in order to lead people deeper into the wilderness on some kind of quest. Modern-day environmentalists use the Snawfus as a symbol; they have even given the first Saturday of October as Snawfus Day.
A surreal image of a winged, white deer-like creature. The animal is adorned with flowering branches and exhales blue mist while flying through autumnal woods in an imaginative realism style.
