Reflections: Adrift in the Sea of Memory

Oh, it's this dream again.

It's weird how some places stick with you and are so intertwined with your memories that you dream about them years after the fact.

A childhood home, your grandparents farm, where you went to elementary school. At some point a place becomes so familiar to you that it becomes one of the default settings in your dreams long after you've left.

The size and layout might be off with rooms that weren't there; basements that didn't exist, but you still recognize it even with all its changes. Like the dream is filling in the blanks of an incomplete picture that is constantly changing when you're not looking.

My old house is floating in the ocean.

This is one of many recurring dreams. Sometimes it floods. Sometimes it breaks in half and sinks. Sometimes there is panic.

I don't know what it means.

Perhaps it comes from an anxiety over change. Things that used to be a given, but didn't last. A desire to return to simpler times.
