The Trojan Horse

The story of the Trojan Horse is first mentioned in the Odyssey. It describes how Greek soldiers were able to take the city of Troy after a fruitless ten-year siege by hiding in a giant wooden horse supposedly left as an offering to the goddess Athena.

When the Greeks sailed off, supposedly in defeat, the Trojans wheeled the horse into the city. At night, the Greeks hidden in the horse came out and opened the gates of Troy and let their comrades in. They then proceeded to burn Troy to the ground.
