His people were marshal artists and students of the written word. When his father died, the will declared he would be the next head of the Storm Light family, once he had completed a week long pilgrimage to the base of the Tempest Peak. But he returned home to naught but a charred husk of memories. His older Cousin, Set Ri, who had dreamed of being the head of the family, had conspired with the Law Scribe who held the will, to send Kan Ri away so he could have him killed and take over the family. Once Kan Ri was far away, Set Ri had set fire to the archives, and killed all who resisted him, then retreated to his home deep in the Rainforest Cave Valley, to enact his plan to transform the Storm Light clan into an army of honorless mercenaries and cutthroat assassins. Kan Ri stared at the shell of his former life, at the body of his young fiance Nia Ri, and as the tears fell, power rose--the power of the Storm, long asleep to his people, awakened once again.
