Every Halloween, deep in the sleepy treetops of Hollow Tree Forest, one creature rises — very slowly — to claim his title as the forest’s least threatening vampire. Meet Slothula, a sloth so chill he once took three hours to descend a single branch. His costume? A velvet cape, two stick-on fangs, and a pumpkin bucket he refuses to let go of, even when napping. Legend says he tried to hiss once, but it came out as a gentle sigh. Slothula doesn’t bite. He snacks. His idea of terror is sneaking up on a banana and whispering “boo” before eating it. Forest critters leave him treats — mostly marshmallows and gummy worms — and in return, he gives sleepy high-fives and unsolicited advice like “nap more” and “don’t stress about acorns.” Some say he’s magical. Others say he’s just really committed to the bit. But one thing’s for sure: if you see a tiny cape fluttering in slow motion, it’s probably Slothula… eventually.

I couldn't get the heron any larger. Hence, I had to provide greater contrast between the bird and the background. The only way I could do that was to increase the amount of fog. I tried hard to find the right balance between enough fog to make the bird visible and soft enough to let the forest show through. At some point, ya just gotta let it go and leave it up to the tender mercies of the voters.
